The lake at Les Praz de Chamonix

La Forêt July 1st, 2008

Les Praz lake

Near the centre of the village, you’ll find this tranquil lake – a beautiful place to admire the reflection of Mont Blanc. It’s surrounded by quiet back roads, which are good places for a relaxing stroll, and perfect with pushchairs.

Cremerie Du Moulin Pizzeria - Les Praz

This place is lots of fun – the friendly owners Sylvie & Didier do all the usual Savoyard specialities, but it’s the pizzas that steal the show. If there’s a big group of you, drop in or call to book in winter, as it’s tiny. In summer the terrace extends the space and is a pleasant spot for a drink. Great for families, cheap and very cheerful, and they also do takeaway.

Hotel Les Rhododendrons

Les Rhododendrons, Les Praz
A super location on the central green of Les Praz, next to the Flegere lift with a view of the church and Mont Blanc. The terrace is a lovely place to watch the sunset on Mont Blanc with a drink.

The bar , after its recent refurbishment, is a great place for a drink after coming down from Flegere – it’s friendly and cosy with a log fire and regular live music.

Join their Facebook group to keep up to date with events here – bands, barbecues and so on. The house speciality is a fantastic selection of home-made shots – try the figgy vodka or the caramel. Some of the finest Vin Chaud in the valley makes this place perfect!

The restaurant, has tasty, inexpensive food in generous plates – exactly what you want after a day on the mountain. It’s especially nice on summer evenings when you can eat outside on the terrace lit with torches. Ideal for families in summer, as there’s a play area for children, and plenty of room for them to run about on the green.

Paradis Des Praz

Paradis Des Praz
This is a great find for younger children and their parents – a lovely shady pool under the pines, with pony rides, rope swings, log bridges and forts. There’s a little kiosk cafe – a buvette – with crepes etc, and barbecues in summer. In winter there’s snow tubing for the kids, and vin chaud for adults. They can also arrange birthday parties.
